On an aluminum fence, the powder coat is what your customer sees and touches every day. Two fences made from the same alloy can age very differently depending on how they were finished. These are the questions worth asking any supplier.
How is the aluminum pretreated?
Good adhesion starts before the powder goes on. Profiles should be cleaned and chemically pretreated so the coating bonds to the metal. Poor pretreatment is the most common cause of peeling and blistering, especially on coastal and pool projects.
Which type of powder is used?
For outdoor fencing, a polyester powder made for exterior use is the standard choice because it resists UV and weathering better than interior powders. Ask whether the powder is rated for outdoor architectural use.
How thick is the coating?
Ask for the target coating thickness and how it is measured. A consistent thickness across the profile gives even color and protection on edges and corners.
Which colors are standard?
Standard colors keep lead times short and make replacement parts easy. Porfence offers five standard colors: Black (RAL 9005), Bronze (textured), Anthracite (RAL 7016), White (RAL 9016) and Moss green (RAL 6005). Other RAL colors are available on request.
Are gates, posts and hardware coated to match?
A fence only looks finished when every part matches. Make sure gates, posts, caps and hardware come from the same coating line and color batch where possible.
How is quality checked?
Ask how color, gloss, thickness and adhesion are inspected before packing, and whether you can approve a sample first. Read more about how Porfence fence is made.
